Ever since I was a kid, I would draw cartoons of
all of my teachers in school. Of course, this did nothing for my
grades. When I got older, this practice never stopped. Froggles
was created around 1984 while I was working as a clerk
in a deli. I would often draw my boss Al in all kinds of funny situations.
Whenever he would come in to work he would be greeted with images
of himself on the plain white coffee cups. He seemed to enjoy it
and the customers always got a kick out of it. (Maybe we should
have charged extra for the illustrated cups!)
I started drawing a cartoon of a woman who used to come in
daily to order 35 cents worth of ham. I named the cartoon Mary Frogize.
As time went on, I refined the cartoon and changed the name to Froggles,
as well as changing it to a masculine character. In 1987 I published
Froggles in a local newspaper called the Ronkonkoma
Review. But this was a very short-lived proposition
since everyday life seemed to be more important. In 2000 I ended
up posting some of my original comics on the web but then never
got around to adding anything new.
2007 will be the year that Froggles is reborn! I hope you find
him amusing and take the time to share his adventures (and misadventures)
with all your friends. Or even your enemies. Or Mary Frogize.
